Ferrous gluconate CAS NO.: 299-29-6/12389-15-0 Introduction:
Molecular formula: C12H22FeO14 • 2H2O
Molecular weight: 482
CAS NO.: 299-29-6, 12389-15-0
EINECS NO.: 206-076-3
Appearance: yellow-gray or pale green-yellow powder or granules.
Organoleptic: Slightly caramel-like odor.
Solubility: It is easily soluble in water (10% in warm water), but almost insoluble in ethanol.
Character: High bioavailability, good solubility, slight iron smell and no astringency flavor.
Ferrous gluconate is effectively used in the treatment of hypochromic anemia. The use of this compound compared with other iron preparations results in satisfactory reticulocyte responses, a high percentage utilization of iron, and daily increase in hemoglobin that a normal level occurs in a reasonably short time. Ferrous gluconate is also used as a food additive when processing black olives. It is represented by the food labeling E number E579 in Europe. It imparts a uniform jet black color to the olives
